Extra Services for our Clients

Monday, January 17th, 2011

At Shipshape Cleaning we are always looking for ways that we can ‘go that extra mile’.

We want to provide our clients with an outstanding service from starting their new contract, to the ongoing service we provide.

This month, we are helping clients with their post Christmas office clear outs.

We have arranged for our electrical recycling contact to visit our clients sites.  If they have any electrical equipment they no longer need or need to dispose of, our contact will arrange a pick up from their offices.

We currently give all of our clients the option to have battery recycling boxes for their offices to ensure all their company and staff’s batteries do not end up in landfill and are recycled.

This January, we have taken this a step further and have arranged recycling collections, from any of our clients sites who need electrical items taken away.

Not all initiatives HAVE to cost clients money and we see it as offering our clients, something extra……

We would like to take the opportunity to thank Val once again for her hard work and continued loyalty to the company and wish her a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Pictures will be uploaded shortly on our blog, Facebook and Twitter pages.

London Raids of Illegal Cleaners…..

Monday, November 15th, 2010

In August it was The House of Commons, now, only a few days ago Hamley’s Toy Store in Regent Street, London was found to have cleaners working in it that are illegal immigrants.

The cleaning company from Essex, who has the cleaning contract at Hamley’s in London, has been found to have several workers employed by them who are not eligible to work here in the UK.

Illegal immigrants are often forced to work for below the minimum wage and are frequently victims of trafficking.

Illegal working has a serious impact, taking jobs from those allowed to work.  These employers often bypass important health and safety training which, in the cleaning industry is paramount to the safety of your cleaning operatives and your clients own staff.

Employers found guilty of using illegal migrants face a fine of up to £10,000 for each one.

Doing these raids in London will uncover, name and shame the cleaning companies who regularly employ staff who are unable to work in the UK and whom they are paying below the minimum wage for long hours.  These companies give bonafide cleaning contractors a bad name and tarnishes our industry, sometimes making it hard to compete in a very competetive market for lucrative cleaning contracts.

We pride ourselves at Shipshape for the way we treat our staff.  From the selection process and interviewing experience our management team has, to our vetting of cleaning staff. We give all our staff full on the job training and support. Completing a full induction on the site, including a COSHH chemical induction.

We always pay above the minimum wage, offer incentives including monthly performance related bonuses on some sites, cleaning team of the month, and employee of the year!

We really do value our staff who are hardworking and loyal to us.

We also, as a matter of course, do all the necessary checks to ensure a prospective employee can work for us, so we stick to the employment rules of the UK.

We want to be your cleaning company of choice…..and work in partnership with you in an ethical manner.

Battery Recycling – FMW Recycling Receive Award

Monday, October 25th, 2010

We are pleased to announce that FMW Recycling have just received the Corporate Green Shoots Award (Highly Commended) from The Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. This award recognises young, growing organisations that have made the most significant contribution to reducing business impact on the environment. We would like to congratulate them on their award.

At Shipshape, we fully support FMW by promoting to our clients the free battery recycling service and we provide our clients battery recycling boxes to put old batteries in. When they are full, they are collected and replaced with a new box.

We offer this service as a free service to all our contacts and are pleased that we can help FMW with their commitment to the environment in this way.

FMW have an outstanding record in diverting batteries from landfill.  Since they started this programme in February this year, they have diverted over 60 tonnes of batteries from landfill and are committed to diverting 200 tonnes by the end of 2011.

If you would like to help FMW hit their battery recycling target, contact us for your free battery recycling box and do something good for the environment.

SHOCK: Desks have 400x more germs than toilet seats!

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Research carried out by Microban, a company that specializes in anti-bacterial protection, has found:

  • On your telephone in the office, typically there will be over 25,000 germs per square inch
  • Your desktop will harbour over 20,000 germs per square inch
  • Your keyboard has in the region of 3,200 germs per square inch
  • Your computer mouse will have over 1,500 germs per square inch

Compared to a toilet seat which will, on average, have 49 germs per square inch……

Therefore, it is essential you have the right cleaners in your office and desks are scheduled into the cleaning programme on a daily basis. Educate staff to leave their desks more tidy and have at least a weekly clear desk policy.  We ensure telephones are sanitized weekly and desktops are wiped over.  We dust keyboards, but we can arrange for keyboard sanitization, along with the computer mouse on a regular basis.

With more and more people eating at their desks, it’s important that workstations are kept clean and hygienic.

If your desk is looking particularly dirty at the moment, give us a call…..

Employing Staff in the Cleaning Industry

Monday, August 30th, 2010

It has recently been reported in the press, The Mail on Sunday 22nd August 2010, that cleaners working on behalf of a cleaning company that provides cleaning at the House of Commons, had not made full checks on members of staff they employed.

The full article can be read here: http://www.democracyforum.co.uk/immigration/80595-police-probe-into-illegal-immigrants-working-house-commons-cleaners.html

At Shipshape Cleaning Company we are very aware of our responsibilities as an employer of cleaning staff for our contracts, and those we take over during a TUPE transfer.  We go through the full procedure of interviewing new staff in person and have documentation that needs to be completed in full by the applicant during the interview. With us, the interviewee will need to:

  • Complete our full application form at the interview
  • Provide 2 work related references
  • Provide proof of their national insurance number
  • Provide proof of ID
  • Provide proof of their eligability to work in the UK

We take our responsibilities very seriously and check that all employees are able to work legitimately in the UK before employment and during our employment.

We have this procedure in place to follow employment law on employing staff and to keep your cleaning contract safe.

Battery Recycling for our Clients

Monday, July 12th, 2010

At Shipshape we are always thinking of ways to ‘add value’ to our clients cleaning contract.  The more we research methods, products, industry news, innitatives and innovations, the more we come up with improvements or additional services for our clients.

We listen to what our clients want and we find it for them.  This then enables all the clients in our portfolio to benefit.  We are also forward thinking and want our services to move with the times and be tailored to our clients individual needs.

Our current innovative idea for our clients is to offer them free battery recycling.  We see it as an important service, enabling companies to recycle their batteries and stop them going into landfill and polluting the environment.

It is also a service that is an add on to their cleaning contract that costs them no more money!

Does your cleaning company put you first and want to improve the service they provide you?

If not, call us and we will happily visit you and put together a proposal for your site services.
